Unbelievable as it may seem to myself and the other 2018 Bilzin Sumberg summer associates, we are officially more than halfway through the program! Thus far, the summer has been full of exciting events, interesting assignments, and a multitude of opportunities to network with attorneys and develop our skills. One such opportunity came last Wednesday as we took a trip on the newly-operational Brightline train with members of the Real Estate and Land Use Practice Groups. Though at this point we have met almost all of the attorneys at the firm, the chance to get to spend time with them in a more intimate setting was extremely valuable and enjoyable. To start our voyage, Eric and I rode Miami’s Metro Mover, conveniently located just a block from Bilzin Sumberg‘s beautiful offices (and next to our favorite restaurant, Novecento), over to the Brightline station to catch our train from Miami to Fort Lauderdale. When we arrived, we met the rest of our group in the luxurious Select Lounge, where we enjoyed complimentary refreshments before boarding the train. We could immediately see how gorgeous the train and coaches were as we approached the platform. The staff was very accommodating in helping us to get settled and in providing us with more refreshments once we were in our seats and got going. All in all, the trip from Miami to Fort Lauderdale took less than 35 minutes! Upon our arrival in Fort Lauderdale, we proceeded to that station’s Select Lounge for a private Happy Hour. Over some great chicken curry, Manny Gonzalez and I discussed the development of Miami’s infrastructure and skyline over the past three decades and the various ways Bilzin Sumberg has contributed over the years through client representation. We also spent some time talking with Sara Herald about the summer program, the different assignments we are working on, and her upcoming travel plans. Now I know who to go to next time I need a vacation recommendation…thanks Sara! At the conclusion of our Happy Hour, we once again boarded the train to return to Miami. Unbelievably, the trip back was even shorter, clocking in at just a hair over 30 minutes. Riding the Brightline with the attorneys from our firm was a great time, and I can only imagine the joy commuters must be feeling with its opening! As always, a special thank you to Jessica Buchsbaum and Betsi Cobas for all of their hard work in making the summer program so amazing!
