Summer Associates, Jordan Rhodes and Brian Trujillo.

When the other summer associates and I first saw “Axe Throwing with the Corporate Department” on our calendars at the beginning of the summer, we had no idea what to expect. But that didn’t stop us! On Tuesday night we showed up to Extreme Axe Throwing in downtown Miami, ready for what the evening had in store. After watching the “Axeperts” give a brief demonstration and go over some very minor safety concerns, it was time to throw some axes!

Brian and Franco did not shy away from the challenge, as they were some of the first to step up. They both did really well but if it was a competition, Kayla would have to win just for her determination and commitment alone. She refused to quit until she became a pro!

Sophie probably won’t be dropping out of school anytime soon to pursue a career in axe throwing, but she was able to highlight her skills during the longest game of Giant Jenga ever to take place. Sophie and Jay Sakalo played for what lasted well over an hour and with each piece they removed, we were sure the tower was going to topple over. The game was extremely intense and my crowning achievement of the night was capturing a picture of the moment the tower fell.

There were several friendly competitions throughout the night. Jose Sariego looked like a professional and Jay Sakalo could hit the bullseye with only his left hand!

Our night of axe throwing was a huge success and it was clear everyone enjoyed themselves. I had some very insightful conversations and it was great getting to know the different attorneys in the Corporate Department. Special shout out to Lauren Sabella for planning such a unique experience! Mr. Alan Axelrod even found the perfect shirt, which he wore proudly all night!

Extreme Axe Throwing is just one of the several different events we have had the opportunity to participate in this summer. During these events, we are able to meet partners and associates we may not have had the chance to yet. In addition, we can ask questions about their specific practice areas in a more casual setting. These experiences afford us the chance to have meaningful conversations with the different attorneys at Bilzin Sumberg so that we can become effective young lawyers.
